BANGALORE, 4 MAY: Impelsys, the comparatively small digital content provider from the city, is set to add to the IT capital’s pride by making available hundreds of titles published by the US based Sesame Street using iPublishCentral, its delivery platform. The arrangement will start soon.
This is in addition to the service it is providing the Lithuanian university by putting its entire library online. The books can be made accessible where the students can give a subscription for a book or a chapter. “Our system can do all that,” is the refrain of its CEO, Mr Sameer Shariff.
Speaking about the arrangement with Sesame Street, he told The Statesman that his company would be the exclusive licencee and seller of Sesame Street eBook content on www.sesamestreet.org. Sesame Street, a children’s programme, is produced by Sesame Workshop, a non-profit organisation, which is viewed in more than 140 countries and helps to bridge the literacy gap. Through iPublishCentral, Sesame Street titles would now be available in one or more of three formats including eBooks which would be user friendly, flip books and audio books including select titles and interactive eBooks.
Readers, he explained, would be able to purchase individual titles or have an annual subscription allowing access to more than 900 books. Around April end, Sesame Workshop and Impelsys would begin offering readers’ individual titles they could purchase. Or, enjoy an annual subscription through which they gain access to over 100 books; even start their own virtual bookshelf. New titles would be added monthly.
With virtual sampling also showing tremendous growth abroad, the city based company, which also operates from the USA, is working on this next hottest tool in educational publishing. In the USA publishers of these books offer product sampling programmes which involve distribution of book samples to the schools.
In other words, virtual sampling digitises traditional print sampling programmes helping the educators to decide whether to buy a particular book or a chapter out of it for their school or college.
This is an area where Impelsys has made inroads, empowering Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, a global education leader for pre K-12 schools, to revamp sampling efforts.
