Auto-drivers beaten up

BARRACKPORE, 19 SEPT: A few auto drivers of Barrackpore-Panihati route were beaten up by passengers as the former increased the fare of transport due to the ongoing bus strike. Three drivers, Mr Junu Das, Mr Bapi Dey and Mr Dilip Ghosh were seriously injured and had to be admitted to Ghola State General Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
The passengers also ransacked two autos.  
One of the passengers said that the auto drivers, taking advantage of the bus strike, had increased the fare and when the passengers refused to comply with their requests, the drivers called them names. The incident occurred at Panihati Kanchkal More. Khardah police came to  the spot and seized six autos. sns
