SRINAGAR, 6 OCT: Prasar Bharati Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) has a plan of setting up 839 new FM stations in private sectors in 290 Indian cities in the near future, Secretary, Union Information Broadcasting Ministry, Mr Uday Kumar Verma, said today. Channels will be launched in Kashmir, Mr Verma said after launching a 10-MW FM Channel-2 of the local station of All India Radio, popularly known as 'Radio Kashmir'. The radio channel was launched by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who congratulated Prasar Bharati for the initiative. Mr Verma said 10 to 20 FM Channels have been earmarked for Kashmir under this programme. The licence fee for the private parties intending to launch FM stations in the state will be half compared to the fees for others, he said. pti
