Artisans seek their art’s price from CM

BARRACKPORE, 27 OCT: Laxmi puja will be observed across the state on Monday. People are busy collecting puja materials from markets. They are also thronging the markets to buy Laxmi idols. The goddess is also worshipped in earthen pots where the image of the goddess is painted.

Sunil Kumar Paul (50) is a renowned earthen pot artist who lives at Banerjeepara in Panihati. He has been at it for several years now. His forefathers lived in Bangladesh and the art has been handed down from one generation to another.

He said there is a huge demand for pot painting. The paintings are also sold in neighbouring states where goddess Laxmi is worshipped.

He says although the cost of the materials has gone up manifold people refuse to pay enough. As a result he is facing a financial problem. He has written to the chief minister demanding financial help.
