Two including army jawan arrested for abducting doctor

IMPHAL, 6 DEC: An army jawan was among two persons who were arrested for allegedly abducting a doctor and his driver for ransom from Chingmeirong area in Imphal West district, the police said today.

Two persons, identified as Kh Robin and Kh Nandakishore, an army jawan posing as militants of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) had abducted medical officer RK Laksana and his driver at gun point some days ago and demanded Rs two lakh as ransom from the family, the superintendent of police of Imphal West district said.

Police commandos of both Imphal east and west districts nabbed the two after combing Chingmeirong area following a tip-off and freed Laksana and his driver on 3 December.

The police also recovered from the abductors Rs one lakh in cash along with mobile handsets, papers related to bank accounts of Laksana.

The two abductors were preparing to leave the state after taking money from the family of the medical officer, he said.
