BEHRAMPORE/GAIGHATA, 28 DEC: A 50 year-old woman was raped inside an ambulance last night at the Choa area under Hariharpara police station limits in Murshidabad, police said. 
The woman was allegedly raped by the ambulance driver, Habibur Sheikh, also a resident of the Choa area.
The woman had gone to Hariharpara Block Hospital to admit her pregnant daughter in a ‘Maatrijan’, a government-sponsored ambulance exclusively used by maternity patients free of cost. She admitted her daughter at the hospital and took a different ambulance to return home late last night. Police said she was alone in the rented ambulance plying on the Swaruppur-Hariharpara state highway. The driver parked the ambulance behind a bush by the roadside and raped her inside the vehicle, alleged the victim's family. Police arrested the accused driver, seized the ambulance and took the woman for a medical test.

Youth held for rape
Gaighata police today arrested a youth for allegedly raping a physically challenged teenager.
The victim has been admitted to hospital.
According to police, the incident took place at Sukanta pally at Thakurnagar in Gaighata. Jayanta Mandal (23) allegedly raped a physically challenged teenager.
According to locals, the incident took place during Christmas. The accused was alone at his home that night. his house. He called the girl and allegedly raped her. The victim informed her family of the matter after she returned home.
