Hirakud toll rises to 31

With three more bodies recovered from Hirakud reservoir, the death toll rose to 31 in the mishap which had occurred on Sunday afternoon.
According to the district emergency officer Mr Nihar Ranjan Dash, while 30 victims were members of the Lions Club and their family members, one Amar Rout was from Hirakud town.
Sources said that while six expert divers and personnel of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) have been carrying out search operation in the reservoir, high resolution telescopes are also being used to locate the missing ones.
A chopper too use engaged in the operation.
A mass cremation was held here last night.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case against the boat man, his assistants and the owner of the boat.
It may be mentioned here that a motorised boat, carrying over 90 people, had turned turtle after developing a snag on the engine in the reservoir.
While 11 deaths were confirmed on Sunday afternoon itself, 17 bodies were recovered on Monday.
The Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the mishap.
